This week, I collected 9 new artworks from the framing team at Hopetree Framing and Art in Wentworth Falls. These artworks make up part of a new exhibition which will be held at Lost Bear Gallery, Katoomba 7th-30th November 2015.
The elements of the artworks require close inspection, and thanks to photographer Graeme Wienand, he has been able to get some macro shots of the work which reveal the detail of the assemblages. Working at this scale and with such delicate materials often has me wonder had I taken another direction in education, perhaps I'd have the skill and steady hand of a surgeon! But then I remember I'm not of a constitution to stomach the sight of blood.
The idea for the artwork titled 'Echo' literally hit me on the head. I was reading under a tree in Blackheath when an acorn 'thunked on my bonce'! These acorn cupules lay in their thousands around me, perfect for a new artwork. I'm so appreciative of the generous gifts of natural materials I receive from people who are familiar with my practice. Thanks to David Coleby, Rae Druitt and most recently Janice Hanicar who provided materials for the artwork to be shown later in the year.
